Crown & Bridge Care

What to expect and how to look after your crown or bridge after placement.

📞 Call With Any Concerns

The First 24 Hours

Temporary Crown

If you have a temporary crown, avoid sticky and very hard foods. The temporary cement is not as strong as the permanent.

Sensitivity

Mild sensitivity to hot, cold or pressure for a few days is normal as the tooth settles.

Eating

Avoid very hard or sticky foods for 24 hours after permanent cementation. After that, eat normally.

Looking After Your Crown or Bridge

Bite feels too high?

If your bite feels uneven after the anaesthetic wears off, contact us for a quick adjustment. Do not leave this — an uneven bite can cause jaw pain and damage the restoration over time.

With good care, porcelain crowns typically last 10–15 years or longer. Regular check-ups help us identify wear early.
Call us promptly. In the meantime, avoid chewing on that side. Do not attempt to recement it with household glue.
Yes, after the first 24 hours. Be mindful of very hard foods that could fracture porcelain — ice, hard sweets and nuts in particular.

Call us if you notice

  • Severe or worsening pain after the first few days
  • Swelling that is increasing rather than improving
  • Fever or feeling generally unwell
  • The restoration feels loose, broken or very high when biting
  • Any symptom that concerns you — never hesitate to call
